IHG One Rewards Credit Card Review: No Annual Fee & 5 Elite Nights

IHG One Rewards Credit Card is Chase’s no-annual-fee IHG personal credit card and the entry-level option in the current U.S. IHG credit card lineup.

Its core benefits are US$0 annual fee, automatic Silver Elite status, and 5 Elite Night Credits every year. Starting in 2027, spending US$5,000 in a calendar year also unlocks Fourth Reward Night Free, making this a simple way to keep IHG benefits without paying an annual fee.

🛏️ 5 Elite Night Credits Every Year

IHG One Rewards Credit Card provides:

5 Elite Night Credits every year

These Elite Night Credits count toward both IHG elite status and Milestone Rewards.

Five nights is much less than the 15 Elite Nights from Premier or 20 Elite Nights from Premier Select, but this card has no annual fee.

That makes it an easy way to start every year with five qualifying nights without paying an annual card fee.

IHG Elite Nights Do Not Stack Like Marriott

Holding multiple IHG credit cards does not allow you to simply add each card’s annual Elite Night Credits together.

For example, holding both the IHG One Rewards Credit Card and Premier Select does not give you:

5 + 20 = 25 Elite Nights

This is different from Marriott Bonvoy, where Elite Night Credits from eligible U.S. personal and business credit cards can be combined.

🏨 Spend US$5,000 to Unlock Fourth Reward Night Free

Starting in 2027, spending US$5,000 on the card in a calendar year unlocks Fourth Reward Night Free.

Once unlocked, a four-night IHG points stay works like this:

Redeem 4 nights → Pay points for only 3 nights

The benefit remains available for the rest of the calendar year in which you qualify and through the following calendar year.

For anyone who regularly redeems IHG points for four-night stays, US$5,000 is the most important annual spending threshold on this card.

🥈 Automatic Silver Elite Status

IHG One Rewards Credit Card includes automatic IHG Silver Elite status.

Silver Elite itself is not a high-level IHG status, so the more interesting part of the card is the combination of:

US$0 annual fee + 5 Elite Night Credits every year

Those Elite Nights can then be combined with actual qualifying stays to work toward higher IHG elite tiers and Milestone Rewards.

💰 Spend US$15,000 and Earn 10K Bonus Points

Spend:

US$15,000 in a calendar year → 10K Bonus Points

This provides another spending incentive, although the card remains primarily designed as an entry-level, no-annual-fee IHG card.

Travelers putting significant annual spend on an IHG credit card may get more value from Premier or Premier Select, which offer additional Elite Nights, Anniversary Free Nights, and other IHG benefits.

🏁 Is the IHG One Rewards Credit Card Worth Keeping?

The card can be summarized as:

US$0 Annual Fee + Silver Elite + 5 Elite Nights + Fourth Reward Night Free after qualifying spend

Its biggest advantage is simple: there is no annual fee.

Even occasional IHG guests can keep the card at no annual card cost while receiving five Elite Night Credits every year.

Frequent IHG guests may prefer Premier with 15 Elite Nights + 50K Anniversary Free Night, or Premier Select with 20 Elite Nights + 60K Anniversary Free Night.

But for travelers who want the lowest-cost entry into the IHG credit card lineup, the IHG One Rewards Credit Card is the simplest option.

🎁 IHG One Rewards Credit Card Historical Welcome Offers

The IHG One Rewards Credit Card is the successor to the IHG One Rewards Traveler Credit Card, so its welcome-offer history should include offers from the previous Traveler version rather than starting over in 2026.

PeriodWelcome OfferSpending Requirement
Oct. 2026–125K PointsUS$2,000 / 3 months
2026100K PointsUS$2,000 / 3 months
2025100K PointsUS$2,000 / 3 months
202580K PointsUS$2,000 / 3 months
2024100K PointsUS$2,000 / 3 months
202480K PointsUS$2,000 / 3 months

Although the card was renamed and redesigned in 2026, it continues the role of the former Traveler card in the IHG credit card lineup. For that reason, historical Traveler offers remain useful when evaluating the current welcome offer.

The current offer also includes:

Add an Authorized User within the first 3 months → 10K Bonus Points

Welcome offers can change at any time. Check the application page for the current offer.

📌 Application Rules

IHG One Rewards Credit Card is subject to the standard eligibility restrictions for IHG personal credit cards.

You are not eligible if you currently hold any personal IHG One Rewards Credit Card.

You are also not eligible if you received a new cardmember bonus on any personal IHG One Rewards Credit Card within the past 24 months.

The IHG business card does not count as a personal IHG card for this restriction.

Premier Select is a special exception and has its own separate eligibility restrictions.

Chase 5/24 should also be considered before applying.

A simple order to follow is:

Check 5/24 → Check Current IHG Personal Cards → Check 24-Month IHG Bonus Eligibility → Apply

Actual eligibility is determined by the terms shown when you apply.

🌎 How Can Foreigners Apply for Chase Credit Cards?

Foreign applicants generally need to establish a U.S. credit history before applying for Chase credit cards.

One common route for existing American Express cardmembers outside the U.S. is:

Amex Global Transfer → U.S. Amex → Build U.S. Credit History → Chase

Applicants should also keep Chase 5/24 in mind while building their U.S. credit history.
