The most important earning feature is the 3X Dining or Grocery choice. Dining is the default selection, but cardholders can switch to Grocery within the first 30 days. After that, the category can generally be changed once each year in January.

Dining 3X has no annual spending cap, while Grocery 3X applies to up to US$25,000 per calendar year. Grocery spending above the cap earns the standard 1X.

Is the Bilt Obsidian Card Worth It?

The Bilt Obsidian Card combines Housing Rewards, a 3X food category, and Travel Rewards for a US$95 annual fee.

Choose Dining:

Dining → 3X Bilt Points

Or choose Grocery:

Grocery → 3X Bilt Points

The category that is not selected earns the standard 1X Bilt Points.

Eligible travel purchases made directly with airlines, hotels, cruise lines, and car rental companies earn 2X. Booking through Bilt Travel increases the earning rate to 3X on flights and 4X on hotels.

US$100 Bilt Travel Hotel Credit

The Bilt Obsidian Card provides up to:

US$100 Bilt Travel Hotel Credit per year

The credit is divided into two periods:

January–June: US$50
July–December: US$50

The credit applies to eligible hotel reservations of at least two nights booked through Bilt Travel. Unused credits do not roll over to the next six-month period.

For cardholders who can fully use the US$100 Hotel Credit each year, the face value alone can offset the card’s US$95 annual fee.

Housing Rewards

Like the other Bilt Card 2.0 products, the Obsidian Card offers two Housing Rewards options:

Housing-only Rewards → Up to 1.25X on eligible Housing Payments

or:

Flexible Bilt Cash → Regular Points + 4% Bilt Cash on eligible Everyday Spend

Under Flexible Bilt Cash, Bilt Cash can be used to enable eligible Housing Payments to earn up to 1X Bilt Points.

Bilt Card Application Rules & Restrictions

Bilt Card 2.0 cards are issued by Column N.A., Member FDIC, with Cardless providing card servicing.

Key application considerations include:

  • Bilt does not publish a fixed minimum Credit Score.
  • Approval may consider Credit History, Income, Existing Debt, and other credit information.
  • Applicants can check whether they are approved without affecting their Credit Score.
  • Manual Review does not necessarily mean the application has been declined.
  • If declined, applicants may reapply after 45 days under Bilt’s current rules.
  • Bilt Card 2.0 no longer has the old 5 Transactions Requirement.

Bilt does not publish a simple application restriction comparable to Chase 5/24. Eligibility and approval remain subject to Bilt’s current terms and underwriting criteria.

Can Foreign Applicants Apply for the Bilt Obsidian Card?

The Bilt Obsidian Card is a U.S. credit card, and applicants must meet the issuer’s identity and credit underwriting requirements.

Approval may consider factors including U.S. Credit History, Income, and Existing Debt, and Bilt does not publish a minimum Credit Score that guarantees approval.

Foreign applicants who have not yet established U.S. credit history can consider starting with American Express Global Transfer, using an eligible existing American Express relationship outside the U.S. to apply for a U.S. Amex card and begin building U.S. credit history.

A practical path is:

American Express Global Transfer → U.S. Amex → Build 6–12 Months of U.S. Credit History → Bilt Obsidian Card

For foreign applicants, the Bilt Obsidian Card is generally better considered after establishing some U.S. credit history rather than as a first U.S. credit card.
