Marriott Annual Choice Benefit: Best 50-Night & 75-Night Rewards
Marriott Annual Choice Benefit allows Marriott Bonvoy members to select special rewards after earning 50 and 75 Elite Night Credits in a calendar year.
The available benefits include Nightly Upgrade Awards (NUAs), additional Elite Night Credits (ENCs), and a 40,000-point Free Night Award (FNA) available exclusively at the 75-night milestone.
This guide compares both milestones, explains which rewards are worth choosing, and walks through the selection process using my actual 2026 Marriott Bonvoy account screenshots.
For an overview of Marriott elite status, points, and hotel benefits, see my Marriott Bonvoy Complete Guide.

▲ My Marriott Bonvoy account showing 76 Elite Night Credits in 2026 and Titanium Elite status, qualifying me for both Annual Choice Benefit selections.
⭐ Marriott Annual Choice Benefit: 50 vs. 75 Nights
| Annual Choice Benefit | 50 Nights | 75 Nights |
|---|---|---|
| Nightly Upgrade Awards (NUAs) | 5 Nights | 5 Nights |
| Elite Night Credits (ENCs) | 5 Nights | 5 Nights |
| Free Night Award (FNA) | — | 40,000 Points |
| Marriott Bed Discount | US$1,000 | US$1,000 |
| Gift Elite Status | Silver Elite | Gold Elite |
| UNICEF Donation | US$100 | US$100 |
| WWF Donation | US$100 | US$100 |
Reaching 50 Elite Night Credits unlocks your first Annual Choice Benefit. Reaching 75 nights unlocks a second selection during the same calendar year.
Eligibility is based on Elite Night Credits earned during the calendar year, not simply your current Marriott elite status.
For example, holding Platinum Elite through a credit card does not automatically qualify you for the 50-night Annual Choice Benefit.
🏨 Which 50-Night Annual Choice Benefit Should You Choose?
The two most useful options for most frequent Marriott guests are 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards and 5 Elite Night Credits.
5 Nightly Upgrade Awards (NUAs)
Nightly Upgrade Awards allow you to request an upgrade to eligible premium rooms or select suites at participating Marriott properties.
Each award covers one night. For example, a three-night reservation requires three NUAs.
NUAs can be applied to eligible paid stays and award stays, but upgrades are subject to room availability and Marriott’s confirmation process.
They do not guarantee a suite upgrade.
This option is particularly attractive if you frequently stay at luxury Marriott properties and want access to better rooms.
5 Elite Night Credits (ENCs)
Selecting this benefit adds five Elite Night Credits to your Marriott Bonvoy account.
These credits count toward both annual elite status qualification and Lifetime Elite Status.
| Current Nights | After 5 ENCs | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 50 | 55 | Additional Lifetime Nights |
| 65 | 70 | Closer to Titanium Elite |
| 70 | 75 | Reach Titanium and Unlock the 75-Night Benefit |
If you have already earned 70 Elite Night Credits, selecting five additional credits brings you to 75 nights, unlocking Titanium Elite and your second Annual Choice Benefit.
Marriott credit cards can also help you accumulate Elite Night Credits.
For travelers with access to both U.S. and Japanese credit cards, see my Japan vs. U.S. Marriott Credit Card Comparison.
For a detailed breakdown of U.S. Marriott cards issued by American Express and Chase, read the Marriott Bonvoy Credit Card Comparison.
My recommendation: Choose 5 Elite Night Credits if they can help you reach Titanium Elite. Otherwise, 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards are generally the more useful option.
🎁 Which 75-Night Annual Choice Benefit Should You Choose?
The biggest difference at 75 nights is the addition of a 40,000-point Free Night Award.
40,000-Point Free Night Award
The 75-night Free Night Award can be redeemed for one eligible standard room night at participating Marriott properties.
You can also add up to 25,000 Marriott Bonvoy points when redeeming the certificate.
| Redemption Method | Maximum Redemption Value |
|---|---|
| 40K FNA Only | 40,000 Points |
| 40K FNA + Points Top-Off | 65,000 Points |
Because Marriott uses dynamic award pricing, the number of points required varies by hotel and travel date.
Compared with Nightly Upgrade Awards, which are not guaranteed to clear, the Free Night Award offers a more straightforward redemption opportunity.
For more details on Marriott Free Night Awards, including different certificate values, the 25,000-point top-off option, expiration rules, and how to redeem them, check out my Marriott Bonvoy Free Night Award Guide.
5 NUAs or 5 Elite Night Credits
If you already have several Free Night Awards and frequently book luxury Marriott hotels, another five NUAs may be worth considering.
Five Elite Night Credits can also be useful if you are continuing to build Lifetime Elite Status.
My recommendation: I generally prefer the 40K Free Night Award at 75 nights. However, travelers who frequently use NUAs at luxury properties may get more value from the upgrade awards.
📅 Annual Choice Benefit Deadlines and Expiration Dates
Marriott does not require you to select your Annual Choice Benefit immediately after reaching the qualifying milestone.
For members who qualify during 2026:
| Item | Deadline or Rule |
|---|---|
| Qualification Year | 2026 |
| Selection Deadline | February 1, 2027, 11:59 PM Eastern Time |
| No Selection Made | Automatically receive 5 NUAs |
| NUA Expiration | December 31, 2027 |
| 75-Night FNA Expiration | December 31, 2027 |
| Elite Night Credits Posting | Within 48 Hours |
| 40K FNA Posting | Within 2 Weeks |
There are two important rules to understand.
First, selections are final. Once you confirm your Annual Choice Benefit, you cannot change it.
Second, Elite Night Credits count toward the original qualification year.
For example, if you earned your Annual Choice Benefit in 2026 but select five Elite Night Credits in January 2027, those credits will count toward your 2026 total, not 2027.
Also, both NUAs and the 75-night FNA earned for 2026 must be used for eligible stays completed by December 31, 2027.
💻 How to Select Your Marriott Annual Choice Benefits
Official website: Marriott Annual Choice Benefit
Here is the actual selection process from my 2026 Marriott Bonvoy account.
Step 1: Select Your 50-Night Benefit

▲ My Marriott account had already reached 75 nights, so both Annual Choice Benefits were available. The first step was choosing my 50-night reward.
After signing in, Marriott displays the available 50-night benefit options.
I selected 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards, then clicked Next Step.
Step 2: Select Your 75-Night Benefit

▲ The 75-night milestone adds the exclusive 40,000-point Free Night Award and the option to gift Gold Elite status.
After completing the first selection, Marriott displays the 75-night benefit options.
I chose the 40,000-point Free Night Award, which can be combined with up to 25,000 additional Marriott points when redeeming a room.
Step 3: Review Both Selections

▲ Marriott displays both Annual Choice Benefit selections together for final review.
My selections were:
- 50 Nights: 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards
- 75 Nights: 40,000-Point Free Night Award
After reviewing the details, I checked the required confirmation boxes and clicked Confirm Selections.
Important: Once submitted, Annual Choice Benefit selections cannot be changed.
Step 4: Confirmation — Benefits Successfully Selected

▲ My 2026 Annual Choice Benefit selections were successfully confirmed: 5 NUAs at 50 nights and a 40K FNA at 75 nights.
After submitting the selections, Marriott displays a confirmation page and sends a confirmation email.
Nightly Upgrade Awards generally appear in your account within 48 hours, while the 40K Free Night Award may take up to two weeks.
If you have qualified for both milestones, Marriott requires you to make both selections during the same process.
Step 5: Verify Your NUAs and Free Night Award

▲ My actual Marriott Bonvoy Earned Rewards page showing 5 newly awarded Nightly Upgrade Awards from the 50-night benefit and a 40,000-point Free Night Award from the 75-night benefit. Both expire on December 31, 2027.
After completing your Annual Choice Benefit selections, you can verify that your rewards have been credited under Earned Rewards in your Marriott Bonvoy account.
My account shows the following rewards:
- 50-Night Benefit: 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards, expiring December 31, 2027.
- 75-Night Benefit: One 40,000-point Free Night Award, expiring December 31, 2027.
Although my account displays a total of 6 NUAs and 4 Free Night Awards, only the two rewards listed above came from my 2026 Annual Choice Benefit selections.
This confirms that both my 50-night and 75-night Annual Choice Benefits were successfully credited.
🏁 Final Verdict: Best Marriott 50-Night and 75-Night Benefits
| Traveler Situation | Recommended Benefit |
|---|---|
| 50 Nights — Working Toward Titanium | 5 Elite Night Credits |
| 50 Nights — No Need for Additional Nights | 5 NUAs |
| 75 Nights — Want a Free Hotel Stay | 40K FNA |
| 75 Nights — Frequent Luxury Hotel Guest | 5 NUAs |
| 75 Nights — Building Lifetime Status | 5 Elite Night Credits |
For my own 2026 Annual Choice Benefits, I selected 5 Nightly Upgrade Awards at 50 nights and the 40K Free Night Award at 75 nights.
This combination gives me both upgrade opportunities and a valuable hotel night certificate.
For most Marriott Bonvoy members, the decision is straightforward:
At 50 nights, consider whether Elite Night Credits can help you reach Titanium Elite. At 75 nights, the 40K Free Night Award is usually my preferred option.
There is no need to rush your selection immediately after qualifying. You can wait until your upcoming hotel plans and elite-status progress are clearer, as long as you complete your selection before the official deadline.
