Atmos Global Companion Award Guide: 25K & 100K Real Redemptions
The Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite Card offers one of the most valuable benefits for travelers who redeem points for two passengers: the Global Companion Award.
Unlike a traditional airline companion ticket, this benefit reduces the Atmos Points required for the second passenger on an eligible award booking. It can also be used with participating international airline partners, including premium-cabin awards.
I’ve personally used a 25K Global Companion Award to book round-trip STARLUX Business Class between Tokyo and Taipei, and a 100K Global Companion Award to book round-trip Finnair Business Class between Phuket and Helsinki.
This guide explains how the benefit works, how to book with it, the actual points I paid, and what happens when you cancel.
⭐ 25K vs. 100K Global Companion Award
| Feature | 25K Companion Award | 100K Companion Award |
|---|---|---|
| How to earn | Annual card anniversary | $60,000 in qualifying annual spending |
| Maximum discount | 25,000 Atmos Points | 100,000 Atmos Points |
| Passengers | 2 passengers total | 2 passengers total |
| Booking type | One-way / Round-trip | One-way / Round-trip |
| Multi-city | Not supported | Not supported |
| Eligible cabins | Economy / Business / First | Economy / Business / First |
| Expiration | Date shown in Wallet | Date shown in Wallet |
| My actual redemption | STARLUX NRT–TPE | Finnair HKT–HEL |
Both awards are exclusive benefits of the Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite Card.
A Global Companion Award is not a deposit of 25,000 or 100,000 Atmos Points into your account. Instead, it applies a discount to the second passenger’s award price when two passengers are booked together.
Only one Global Companion Award can be applied to a reservation. The 25K and 100K discounts cannot be combined.
🎫 How Does the Global Companion Award Work?
To use a Global Companion Award, you must book two passengers on the same award reservation.
The first passenger pays the regular award price. The second passenger receives a discount of up to 25,000 or 100,000 Atmos Points, depending on the certificate.
Any remaining points required for the second passenger must still be paid.
Here’s the pricing from my actual STARLUX Business Class redemption:
| Passenger | Regular Award | With 25K Award |
|---|---|---|
| First passenger | 30,000 | 30,000 |
| Second passenger | 30,000 | 5,000 |
| Total | 60,000 | 35,000 |
| Points saved | — | 25,000 |
The final price for two round-trip Business Class tickets was 35,000 Atmos Points + $139.40.
If the second passenger’s award costs less than the certificate’s maximum discount, the unused portion is forfeited. It cannot be saved for another booking.
For the best value, look for an itinerary where the second passenger’s regular award price is at least equal to the certificate’s face value.
💳 How to Earn the 25K and 100K Awards
25K: Annual Card Anniversary Benefit
The Summit Card provides a 25K Global Companion Award as an annual card anniversary benefit.
A 25K certificate may also be available through an eligible new-cardmember offer, depending on the offer terms.
The anniversary benefit is particularly useful for cardholders who regularly redeem Atmos Points for two travelers.
100K: Spend $60,000 in a Card Anniversary Year
Cardholders can earn a 100K Global Companion Award after making $60,000 in qualifying purchases during a card anniversary year.
Summit spending also earns Status Points.
| Spending Benefit | Amount |
|---|---|
| Qualifying annual spending | $60,000 |
| Status Points from spending | 30,000 |
| Companion Award earned | 100K Global Companion Award |
| Redeemable Atmos Points | Earned separately from purchases |
For travelers already putting substantial annual spending on the Summit Card, the 100K certificate can provide additional value beyond the points and Status Points earned from purchases.
If you’re also working toward oneworld Sapphire or Emerald status, see my 2027 Atmos Rewards Elite Status Guide for strategies combining Summit Card spending with eligible flights.
✈️ Which Airlines and Cabins Are Eligible?
Global Companion Awards can be used on eligible award itineraries booked through Alaska Airlines, including participating international airline partners.
| Booking Type | Eligibility |
|---|---|
| Alaska Airlines / Hawaiian Airlines | Eligible awards |
| oneworld partners | Eligible partner awards |
| Other participating global partners | Eligible partner awards |
| Economy Class | Eligible |
| Business Class | Eligible |
| First Class | Eligible |
| One-way | Supported |
| Round-trip | Supported |
| Multi-city | Not supported |
| Revenue tickets | Not eligible |
Important: Global Companion Awards must be booked using the One-way or Round-trip search option. The Multi-city booking option is not supported.
This means you should not assume that the regular Atmos Rewards multi-city or stopover booking process will work with a Global Companion Award.
You also need award availability for both passengers. Finding one Business Class award seat is not enough to complete a two-passenger booking.

🖥️ How to Book a Global Companion Award on Alaska Airlines
The following walkthrough uses my actual Atmos Rewards Wallet and STARLUX Business Class booking screenshots.
Step 1: Sign In and Open Your Wallet
Sign in to your Atmos Rewards account on the Alaska Airlines website.
Open the account menu in the upper-right corner and select Wallet.

▲ Open the account menu and select Wallet to view your available Global Companion Awards.
Step 2: Find Your 25K or 100K Certificate
In Wallet, open the Discounts section and select Available discounts.
Each available certificate displays its award name, expiration date, discount code, and a Use to book button.

▲ My actual Atmos Rewards Wallet showing both certificates. The full discount codes have been hidden for privacy.
The expiration date shown here is important, especially if you plan to cancel and rebook later.
Step 3: Click “Use to book”
Select the certificate you want to use and click Use to book.
The Alaska Airlines booking page opens with the corresponding discount code automatically populated.
Check the following settings:
| Booking Field | Setting |
|---|---|
| Origin / Destination | Your preferred route |
| Trip Type | One-way or Round-trip |
| Passengers | 2 adults |
| Use points | Selected |
| Discount code | Automatically populated |

▲ The booking page shows the companion discount code. Make sure two passengers are selected and Use points is enabled.
Do not switch to Multi-city, since that booking mode is not supported for this benefit.
Step 4: Select the Outbound Flight
For my 25K redemption, I searched for a STARLUX Business Class flight from Tokyo Narita to Taipei Taoyuan.
JX801 — NRT → TPE
The search results displayed available award cabins and confirmed that the 25K Global Companion Award was being applied.

▲ Actual outbound search results showing STARLUX Business Class award availability with the 25K Global Companion Award applied.
Step 5: Select the Return Flight
For the return, I selected:
JX800 — TPE → NRT
I chose Business Class again, completing the round-trip itinerary for two passengers.

▲ Actual return-flight selection showing the companion discount remains active.
The prices displayed during flight selection can change as the itinerary is assembled.
Always rely on the final Review & Pay page for the total points and taxes.
Step 6: Verify the Final Price
After selecting both flights and entering passenger information, proceed to Review & Pay.
The Price summary should show the two passengers separately, including the Global Companion Award discount.

▲ My actual checkout: 35,000 Atmos Points + $139.40 for two round-trip STARLUX Business Class tickets, with the Summit Card booking fee waiver applied.
| Passenger | Final Price |
|---|---|
| First passenger | 30,000 Points + $69.70 |
| Second passenger | 5,000 Points + $69.70 |
| Total | 35,000 Points + $139.40 |
| Points saved | 25,000 |
The checkout also displayed the Atmos Rewards Summit Card booking fee waiver, confirming that the applicable partner award booking fee had been waived.
Review the passenger information, flight details, and final price before completing payment.
🏅 My 25K Redemption: STARLUX Business Class, Tokyo–Taipei
I used my 25K Global Companion Award to book two round-trip STARLUX Business Class tickets between Tokyo Narita and Taipei Taoyuan.
| Detail | Actual Booking |
|---|---|
| Airline | STARLUX Airlines |
| Route | NRT–TPE–NRT |
| Cabin | Business Class |
| Flights | JX801 / JX800 |
| Passengers | 2 |
| Regular award price | 60,000 Points |
| Companion discount | −25,000 Points |
| Final price | 35,000 Points + $139.40 |
The 25K certificate reduced the total award cost from 60,000 to 35,000 Atmos Points.
This is a useful example because the flights were operated by STARLUX, not Alaska Airlines.
The ability to apply a companion discount to international partner Business Class awards is what makes the benefit particularly interesting.
For more ways to redeem Atmos Points on STARLUX flights, see my Atmos Rewards STARLUX Redemption Guide, including short-haul Business Class award opportunities.
🌍 My 100K Redemption: Finnair Business Class, Phuket–Helsinki
I also used a 100K Global Companion Award to book two round-trip Finnair Business Class tickets between Phuket and Helsinki.
The regular award price was 150,000 Atmos Points per passenger, or 300,000 Points for two travelers.
Finding Two Finnair Business Class Award Seats
When searching Alaska Airlines, I found Finnair nonstop Business Class award availability between Helsinki and Phuket.

▲ Alaska Airlines showed Finnair AY151 Business Class at 75,000 Atmos Points + $45 one-way, with two award seats available.
This screenshot shows the individual one-way search result. The $45 displayed there is not the final per-passenger tax amount for the round-trip booking.
Actual 100K Global Companion Award Pricing
| Item | Atmos Points |
|---|---|
| First passenger | 150,000 |
| Second passenger, regular price | 150,000 |
| 100K companion discount | −100,000 |
| Second passenger after discount | 50,000 |
| Total Points required | 200,000 |
| Total taxes and fees | $118.80 |

▲ Actual checkout showing 150,000 Points for the first passenger and 50,000 Points for the companion, totaling 200,000 Atmos Points + $118.80. The Summit Card booking fee waiver was also applied.
The 100K certificate saved the full 100,000 Atmos Points, reducing the cost of two round-trip Business Class tickets from 300,000 to 200,000 Points.
For travelers planning long-haul premium-cabin awards together, this is where the 100K Global Companion Award can deliver substantial value.
⚠️ Expiration, Cancellation, and Booking Restrictions
Before using either certificate, understand the expiration and cancellation rules.
| Rule | Details |
|---|---|
| Booking type | One-way or Round-trip |
| Multi-city | Not supported |
| Passengers | 2 passengers total on the same reservation |
| Combining certificates | Not allowed |
| Unused discount | Forfeited |
| Taxes and fees | Paid separately |
| Certificate expiration | Date shown in Wallet |
| Travel after expiration | Allowed if booked before expiration |
Can You Travel After the Certificate Expires?
Yes. The certificate must be used to book before its expiration date, but travel can take place afterward.
You can book flights as far into the future as Alaska Airlines’ reservation system currently allows, provided the certificate is still valid when the booking is completed.
For example, if your certificate expires in January but Alaska Airlines is already selling eligible award tickets for later months, you can book those flights before the January expiration.
The certificate’s expiration date does not automatically extend when you make a reservation.
What Happens If You Cancel?
The treatment of a Global Companion Award depends on whether the ticket has been used and whether the certificate is still valid.
| Situation | Companion Award Treatment |
|---|---|
| Entire itinerary unused; certificate still valid | Certificate can be returned and reused |
| Cancellation before departure | Reports indicate the certificate often returns immediately |
| Certificate already expired when canceled | Companion discount is forfeited |
| Outbound flight already flown | Partially used ticket restrictions apply |
| Canceling the remaining return after departure | Do not expect the companion discount to be restored |
For an entirely unused reservation canceled while the certificate is still valid, the Global Companion Award can be returned to the account.
Based on actual member experiences, the certificate often reappears almost immediately.
However, the original expiration date remains unchanged. Canceling does not restart the certificate’s validity period.
What If You’ve Already Flown the Outbound Flight?
This is an important distinction for round-trip awards.
Alaska Airlines’ Global Companion Award rules restrict changes to partially used tickets.
If you’ve already flown the outbound portion, you should not assume that canceling the remaining return flight will restore your 25K or 100K companion discount.
The companion benefit is not treated as a separate unused certificate that can simply be returned after part of the trip has been completed.
The handling of any remaining Atmos Points or refundable taxes associated with an unused return segment is a separate matter and may require assistance from Alaska Airlines.
If your travel plans are uncertain, canceling and rebooking before departure and before the certificate expires provides the most flexibility.
🏁 Final Thoughts: How Valuable Are the 25K and 100K Awards?
The biggest advantage of the Atmos Global Companion Award is the ability to reduce the points required for two travelers on eligible award flights, including international partner Business Class.
My two actual bookings demonstrate the difference:
| Actual Redemption | Regular Price | Final Price | Points Saved |
|---|---|---|---|
| STARLUX NRT–TPE Round-trip Business | 60,000 | 35,000 | 25,000 |
| Finnair HKT–HEL Round-trip Business | 300,000 | 200,000 | 100,000 |
The 25K Global Companion Award is useful for annual trips where two travelers can redeem points together.
The 100K Global Companion Award can be especially valuable for long-haul Business Class itineraries that would otherwise require a substantial number of Atmos Points.
In both cases, the key is finding eligible award availability for two passengers before applying the certificate.
Find the right two-passenger award first, then use your Global Companion Award to reduce the points required for the second traveler.
