Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business American Express Card Guide: Sky Club, 2,500 MQD & Companion Certificate

The Delta SkyMiles Reserve Business American Express Card (commonly known as the Amex Delta Reserve Business) is the premium card in Delta’s business credit card lineup. Its core value comes from Delta Sky Club access, MQD Headstart and MQD Boost, and the annual Companion Certificate.

Compared with the Amex Delta Platinum Business, the Reserve Business doubles the MQD earning rate from US$20 = 1 MQD to US$10 = 1 MQD and adds Delta Sky Club, Centurion Lounge and Escape Lounge access.

Delta Sky Club + Centurion Lounge

One of the biggest advantages of the Amex Delta Reserve Business is airport lounge access.

Card Members receive 15 Delta Sky Club Visits per Medallion Year when traveling on eligible Delta flights, plus 4 One-Time Guest Passes per Medallion Year.

Spending US$75,000 in a calendar year unlocks Unlimited Delta Sky Club Access.

Eligible Card Members can also access Centurion Lounges and Escape Lounges when flying Delta on a ticket purchased with the Card, subject to the applicable access rules.

2,500 MQD Headstart + US$10 = 1 MQD

The Amex Delta Reserve Business provides 2,500 MQDs each Medallion Qualification Year through MQD Headstart.

Eligible Card spending then earns:

US$10 = 1 MQD

That is twice the MQD earning rate of the Amex Delta Platinum Business, which earns 1 MQD for every US$20 in eligible purchases.

For business owners who want to use credit card spending to accelerate Delta Medallion Status, this is one of the most important reasons to choose the Reserve Business.

Annual Companion Certificate

After each Card renewal, Card Members receive an annual Companion Certificate that can be used for eligible:

Delta First, Delta Comfort and Delta Main

round-trip itineraries within the U.S. and to eligible destinations in the Caribbean and Central America.

Government-imposed taxes and fees still apply and can range from US$22 to US$250, depending on the itinerary. Delta Basic fares are excluded.

Business Spending Categories

The core Delta benefits of the Amex Delta Reserve Business are very similar to those of the personal Amex Delta Reserve, but the Business version offers bonus categories designed around business expenses.

Eligible transit, U.S. shipping and U.S. office supply store purchases earn 1.5X SkyMiles.

After reaching US$150,000 in purchases in a calendar year, eligible purchases earn 1.5X SkyMiles for the remainder of that year. Purchases that qualify for a higher earning rate continue to earn the higher rate.

Conclusion

The Amex Delta Reserve Business is built around four major benefits: Delta Sky Club access, Companion Certificate, 2,500 MQD Headstart and US$10 = 1 MQD through MQD Boost.

For business owners who regularly fly Delta, use Delta Sky Clubs and actively pursue Medallion Status, the Reserve Business offers the most complete set of benefits among Delta’s three business cards.

If Sky Club access is not important and US$20 = 1 MQD is sufficient, the Amex Delta Platinum Business may be the simpler choice.

Application Rules & Restrictions

When applying for American Express credit cards, keep these key rules in mind:

– Once in a Lifetime: The Welcome Offer on the same Amex Card is generally available only once. Some cards also have Family Language, meaning that previously holding another card in the same family may affect Welcome Offer Eligibility.

– Card Slots: You can generally hold around 5 Amex Credit Cards, with Personal and Business Credit Cards counted together. Charge Cards typically do not count toward this Credit Card limit. Actual limits may vary.

– 1/5 & 2/90 Rule: A commonly observed guideline is generally no more than 1 Amex Credit Card approval within 5 days and 2 approvals within 90 days. This primarily applies to Credit Cards rather than Charge Cards.

– Pop-Up: During the application process, Amex may notify you that you are not eligible for the Welcome Offer. You may still be able to continue the application and receive approval, but without the Welcome Offer.

A simple Amex application strategy is:

Check Welcome Offer Eligibility → Check Family Language → Manage Card Slots → Submit Application

Actual application and Welcome Offer Eligibility requirements are subject to the current terms of each American Express Card.

How Can Foreigners Apply for American Express Credit Cards?

For foreigners entering the U.S. credit card market, Amex Global Transfer can be one of the best starting points.

If you already hold an eligible American Express card in another country, your existing Amex cardmember history may help support an application for a U.S. Amex card without first building a long U.S. credit history.

Overseas Amex → Amex Global Transfer → U.S. Amex → Build U.S. Credit History

Actual eligibility and required information are subject to current American Express requirements.
