Diamond Reserve is different. Members must complete 80 nights or 40 stays and also reach US$18,000 in annual eligible spending.
For most Hilton travelers, the biggest milestone is not necessarily Diamond—it is Gold.
Gold already unlocks some of Hilton Honors’ most practical stay benefits, including room upgrades and either breakfast or a Food & Beverage Credit depending on the property and region.

If you frequently stay at Hilton or Conrad properties with Executive Lounges, the value of Diamond can be much greater than simply looking at the 100% points bonus.
Diamond Reserve
Diamond Reserve is the new highest Hilton Honors tier introduced in 2026.
In addition to Diamond benefits, it adds:

- Confirmable Upgrade Reward
- Premium Club Access
- Dedicated customer service
The most interesting benefit is the Confirmable Upgrade Reward.
When eligible, it can be used to confirm an upgrade to a premium room or potentially a suite at the booking stage for a stay of up to seven nights.
The key difference is simple:
Most Diamond upgrades still depend on availability, while Diamond Reserve introduces a way to confirm certain upgrades in advance.
How to Earn Hilton Honors Elite Status
Hilton Honors elite status can primarily be earned through three routes:

Beginning in 2026, eligible spending became one of the main qualification methods for Hilton Honors elite status.
However, one of the biggest differences between Hilton and Marriott is that select credit cards can also provide Hilton elite status directly.
That means you do not necessarily need to complete 25 nights before becoming Gold or 50 nights before becoming Diamond.

Hilton Honors Milestone Bonuses
Hilton Honors also offers Milestone Bonuses for frequent guests.

If you mainly receive Gold or Diamond status through a credit card, Milestone Bonuses probably will not be your main goal.
But if you already stay 40 or more nights with Hilton each year, these bonuses can become a meaningful source of additional points.
Hilton Honors Lifetime Diamond Status
Hilton Honors also offers Lifetime Diamond status.
The current requirement is:
10 years of Diamond Status
plus either:
1,000 Paid / Reward Nights

US$200,000 in Lifetime Eligible Spend
Once Lifetime Diamond is earned, you no longer need to requalify for Diamond each year.

Hilton Honors Points can primarily be earned through:

The most basic method is still staying at Hilton properties.
At most Hilton brands, eligible hotel spending earns:
US$1 = 10 Hilton Base Points
Some brands have different earning rates. Home2 Suites, Homewood Suites, Spark, Tru, Apartment Collection, and YOTEL earn 5 Base Points per US$1, while LivSmart Studios earns 3 Base Points per US$1.

Hilton balances can look much larger than those of other hotel programs.
But one Hilton point should not be treated as equal to one Marriott or Hyatt point.
Transfer Credit Card Points to Hilton Honors
Hilton Honors is a transfer partner of two major U.S. transferable points programs.

American Express Membership Rewards is the primary U.S. transferable points option for Hilton Honors, with a standard 1:2 transfer ratio. Bilt Rewards can also transfer to Hilton Honors at 1:1.
Transferable points can be useful for topping up a Hilton Honors account for a specific award stay. Since these points can also be transferred to other airline and hotel programs, it generally makes sense to transfer only when you have a specific Hilton redemption in mind.
How Much Are Hilton Honors Points Worth?
Hilton Honors uses dynamic award pricing, so the number of points required for the same property can vary significantly by date.
For that reason, I do not recommend assigning Hilton Points one fixed value.
The simplest way to evaluate a redemption is:
Cash Price ÷ Hilton Points Required = Redemption Value per Point
For example:
Cash price: US$500
Award price: 80,000 Hilton Points
Then:
US$500 ÷ 80,000 = US$0.00625 per point
That is approximately 0.625 cents per point.
If the same hotel costs only US$250 on another date but still requires 80,000 Points, using points may no longer make sense.
The goal is not to chase one fixed Hilton point valuation.
Look for dates when cash rates are high but Standard Room Reward pricing remains reasonable.
How to Redeem Hilton Honors Points for Hotel Stays
The primary use of Hilton Honors Points is redeeming them for stays at Hilton properties.
The main options include:
- Standard Room Reward
- Premium Room Reward
- Points & Money
For points travelers, Standard Room Rewards deserve the most attention.
That is because important Hilton strategies such as Fifth Night Free and Free Night Rewards are closely tied to Standard Room availability.
Standard Room Reward
A Standard Room Reward is Hilton’s standard award room.
As long as Standard Room Reward availability exists, you can redeem Hilton Honors Points for the room.
Hilton does not use a traditional fixed hotel category award chart. Reward pricing is dynamic.
Premium Room Reward
If a Standard Room Reward is unavailable, Hilton may still offer a Premium Room Reward.
However, Premium Room Rewards can require significantly more points.
Unless I specifically need a certain room type, I generally would not prioritize Premium Room Rewards when redeeming Hilton Points.
Hilton Fifth Night Free: Stay Five Nights, Pay Points for Four
One of the most useful Hilton Honors redemption benefits is Fifth Night Free.
Silver, Gold, Diamond, and Diamond Reserve members who use 100% Hilton Honors Points to book at least five consecutive nights of Standard Room Rewards receive every fifth night free.

If you are already planning a four-night points stay, always check:
How many additional points would the fifth night actually require?
In many cases, adding the fifth night does not increase the total points cost.
Hilton Points & Money
Hilton also allows members to combine Points and cash when booking a stay.
This can be useful when:
- You do not have enough Points for the entire stay
- You do not want to use your entire Hilton Points balance
- The Points & Money combination offers reasonable value
The cash portion of a Points & Money stay can still earn eligible Hilton Honors Points.
However, there is one important limitation:
Points & Money does not qualify for Fifth Night Free.
If you plan to stay five nights or longer, always compare the cost against a 100% Points Standard Room Reward booking.
Hilton Free Night Reward
Free Night Rewards (FNRs) are one of the most valuable tools in the Hilton Honors ecosystem.
Hilton FNRs work differently from Marriott’s 35K, 50K, and 85K Free Night Awards.
Instead of carrying a fixed points denomination, an eligible Hilton Free Night Reward can be used for one night of qualifying Standard Accommodation at participating Hilton properties.
The key advantage is:
A high Standard Room Reward points price does not automatically make the hotel ineligible for an FNR.
That makes FNRs especially interesting at expensive properties such as:

Hilton Honors is particularly flexible for families and group travel.

Yes.
Hilton Honors Points may expire after 24 consecutive months without qualifying account activity.
Even if you do not stay with Hilton frequently, it is worth monitoring your account activity.

If you have a large Hilton Points balance, I would not wait until you are close to the 24-month mark to address it.

How to Use Hilton Honors Efficiently
If I had to reduce the entire Hilton Honors strategy to three core ideas:
First, obtain the elite status that makes sense for you.
Most travelers do not need to chase Diamond immediately.
Gold already includes many of Hilton’s most useful stay benefits, so if you can obtain Gold directly through a credit card, that may already be enough.
Second, prioritize Standard Room Rewards when using Hilton Points.
Before redeeming Points, compare:
- Cash room rate
- Standard Room Reward Points
- Whether you can stay five nights
- Whether Fifth Night Free applies
A four-night Points stay is always worth checking against a five-night stay.
Third, save Free Night Rewards for expensive stays.

If you have an opportunity to use one at an eligible Waldorf Astoria, Conrad, LXR, or another expensive Hilton property, it can often provide more value than using it for an ordinary one-night stay.

Yes.
