tmos Rewards USA–Europe Award Guide: 8 Airlines, 45K Business Class & Stopover Rules
Atmos Rewards offers more than award flights within Asia or North America. Its transatlantic network provides opportunities to redeem points for nonstop flights between the United States and Europe, including London, Dublin, Madrid, Helsinki, Frankfurt, and Reykjavík.
The network includes Alaska Airlines’ own European services and seven major partner airlines: American Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Aer Lingus, Condor, and Icelandair.
This guide focuses on partner award pricing, nonstop routes, business class sweet spots, taxes and surcharges, and international stopover rules. Alaska Airlines is included in the network overview, but its own flights are not evaluated using the partner award chart.
For an introduction to the program, see the Atmos Rewards Complete Guide.
🌍 USA–Europe Nonstop Route Map: 8 Airlines
▲ USA–Europe nonstop route network, verified in October 2026. The interactive map covers 153 nonstop routes operated by eight airlines, including seasonal services. Seven partner airlines connect the United States with their main European hubs: American Airlines and British Airways in London, Finnair in Helsinki, Iberia in Madrid, Aer Lingus in Dublin, Condor in Frankfurt, and Icelandair in Reykjavík. Alaska Airlines’ three new European routes serve London, Rome, and Reykjavík. Canadian departure routes are excluded.
The map allows readers to show or hide individual airlines and examine nonstop city pairs.
| Airline | Main European Airports | Award Focus |
|---|---|---|
| Alaska Airlines (AS) | London, Rome, Reykjavík | Alaska-operated flights |
| American Airlines (AA) | LHR, MAD, CDG, FCO and others | East Coast business class |
| British Airways (BA) | LHR, LGW | Extensive London network |
| Finnair (AY) | HEL | Helsinki and Northern Europe |
| Iberia (IB) | MAD | Nonstop flights to Spain |
| Aer Lingus (EI) | DUB, SNN | Ireland and short transatlantic routes |
| Condor (DE) | FRA | Economy class awards |
| Icelandair (FI) | KEF | Iceland and economy class connections |
American Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, and Iberia are oneworld members. Aer Lingus, Condor, and Icelandair participate through separate Atmos Rewards partnerships.
⭐ Atmos Rewards USA–Europe Partner Award Chart
Atmos Rewards uses a distance-based partner award chart for travel between the United States and Europe.
The following amounts represent starting one-way award rates, not guaranteed prices or confirmed seat availability.
| One-Way Distance | Economy | Premium Economy | Business | First |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Up to 1,500 miles | 7.5K | 10K | 15K | 22.5K |
| 1,501–3,500 miles | 22.5K | 30K | 45K | 67.5K |
| 3,501–5,000 miles | 27.5K | 35K | 55K | 82.5K |
| 5,001–7,000 miles | 35K | 45K | 70K | 105K |
| 7,001–10,000 miles | 42.5K | 55K | 85K | 130K |
| 10,001+ miles | 55K | 72.5K | 110K | 165K |
The 45K business class band is particularly attractive for transatlantic flights.
Several routes between the U.S. East Coast and Europe fall within 3,500 miles, placing them in the lowest transatlantic business class distance band.
However, actual prices can exceed the published starting rates. Route distance alone does not confirm that a particular award seat is available at the chart minimum.
🇺🇸 American Airlines (AA): East Coast Business Class Sweet Spots
American Airlines operates an extensive transatlantic network from multiple U.S. hubs, with nonstop flights to London, Paris, Madrid, Rome, and other European destinations.
Unlike airlines that concentrate their European operations at a single hub, American Airlines offers nonstop service to numerous European cities.
Representative Nonstop Routes
| Route | Approx. Distance | Business Class Starting Band |
|---|---|---|
| PHL–DUB | 3,264 miles | 45K |
| JFK–EDI | 3,247 miles | 45K |
| BOS–LHR | 3,256 miles | 45K |
| JFK–LHR | 3,442 miles | 45K |
| PHL–LIS | 3,449 miles | 45K |
| JFK–MAD | 3,579 miles | 55K |
| JFK–CDG | 3,625 miles | 55K |
| PHL–AMS | 3,726 miles | 55K |
| JFK–FCO | 4,267 miles | 55K |
| DFW–LHR | 4,739 miles | 55K |
These are distance-based starting bands, not individually confirmed American Airlines business class award prices.
Special Case: Philadelphia to Athens
The nonstop PHL–ATH route measures approximately 5,023 miles, placing it just above the 5,000-mile threshold.
Under the standard distance chart, the expected starting business class rate would be 70K.
However, an actual Atmos Rewards search returned:
| Cabin | Observed Award Price |
|---|---|
| Economy | 27.5K |
| Business | 55K |
This was below the starting rate implied by the route’s great-circle distance.
It is a useful example of why checking actual award pricing matters, but the observed price should not be treated as a permanently available rate.

🇬🇧 British Airways (BA): Extensive Routes, Higher Surcharges
British Airways operates one of the largest nonstop networks between the United States and the United Kingdom.
London Heathrow (LHR) is its primary hub, with selected services operating through London Gatwick (LGW).
Representative Nonstop Routes
| Route | Approx. Distance | Business Class Starting Band |
|---|---|---|
| BOS–LHR | 3,256 miles | 45K |
| JFK–LHR | 3,442 miles | 45K |
| EWR–LHR | 3,456 miles | 45K |
| PHL–LHR | 3,536 miles | 55K |
| IAD–LHR | 3,667 miles | 55K |
| ORD–LHR | 3,942 miles | 55K |
| MCO–LHR | 4,328 miles | 55K |
| DFW–LHR | 4,739 miles | 55K |
| SEA–LHR | 4,786 miles | 55K |
| LAX–LHR | 5,443 miles | 70K |
Why British Airways Surcharges Matter
British Airways award flights can carry substantial cash surcharges, particularly in premium cabins.
In one observed comparison, a British Airways-operated transatlantic itinerary required approximately US$1,004 in cash charges, while an alternative American Airlines itinerary had much lower cash charges.
The total redemption cost therefore depends on more than the number of Atmos Points.
Compare the required points, taxes, carrier-imposed surcharges, and flight schedules before selecting British Airways.
A low mileage price does not necessarily make it the best-value redemption.
🇫🇮 Finnair (AY): Helsinki and Northern Europe
Finnair operates its U.S. long-haul network through Helsinki (HEL), making it a convenient partner for travel to Finland, Northern Europe, and onward European destinations.
U.S.–Helsinki Nonstop Routes
| Route | Approx. Distance | Business Class Starting Band |
|---|---|---|
| JFK–HEL | 4,106 miles | 55K |
| ORD–HEL | 4,423 miles | 55K |
| SEA–HEL | 4,768 miles | 55K |
| MIA–HEL | 5,174 miles | 70K |
| DFW–HEL | 5,212 miles | 70K |
| LAX–HEL | 5,601 miles | 70K |
Some services are seasonal. Chicago and Seattle have summer-oriented schedules, while Miami is a winter-season destination.
Helsinki also provides connections to numerous European cities, making Finnair a potential option for itineraries involving a stopover.
However, finding award availability on two separate segments does not guarantee that Atmos Rewards will allow both flights to be combined into one stopover award.
🇪🇸 Iberia (IB): Nonstop Flights to Madrid
Iberia’s primary hub is Madrid (MAD), with nonstop service from several major U.S. airports.
Its East Coast routes are relatively short, while flights from California fall into higher distance bands.
Representative Nonstop Routes
| Route | Approx. Distance | Business Class Starting Band |
|---|---|---|
| BOS–MAD | 3,401 miles | 45K |
| JFK–MAD | 3,579 miles | 55K |
| EWR–MAD | 3,597 miles | 55K |
| IAD–MAD | 3,806 miles | 55K |
| ORD–MAD | 4,190 miles | 55K |
| MCO–MAD | 4,365 miles | 55K |
| MIA–MAD | 4,415 miles | 55K |
| DFW–MAD | 4,954 miles | 55K |
| SFO–MAD | 5,797 miles | 70K |
| LAX–MAD | 5,832 miles | 70K |
Boston–Madrid is particularly interesting because its approximately 3,401-mile distance falls within the 45K business class starting band.
As with other partners, the actual operating airline and available award price must be confirmed. An American Airlines-operated flight on the same city pair should not be treated as evidence of Iberia-operated award availability.
🇮🇪 Aer Lingus (EI): Dublin and Shannon
Aer Lingus is not a oneworld member, but eligible flights can be booked using Atmos Rewards points through its partnership.
Its transatlantic network is centered on Dublin (DUB), with additional nonstop services to Shannon (SNN).
Representative Nonstop Routes
| Route | Approx. Distance | Business Class Starting Band |
|---|---|---|
| BOS–DUB | 2,985 miles | 45K |
| JFK–DUB | 3,171 miles | 45K |
| EWR–DUB | 3,185 miles | 45K |
| PHL–DUB | 3,264 miles | 45K |
| IAD–DUB | 3,395 miles | 45K |
| CLE–DUB | 3,456 miles | 45K |
| ORD–DUB | 3,663 miles | 55K |
| BNA–DUB | 3,896 miles | 55K |
| SEA–DUB | 4,526 miles | 55K |
| LAX–DUB | 5,169 miles | 70K |
Two Shannon routes also fall within the 45K business class distance band:
- BOS–SNN: approximately 2,887 miles
- JFK–SNN: approximately 3,073 miles
The main appeal of Aer Lingus is its collection of relatively short nonstop flights from the U.S. East Coast.
For onward travel from Dublin, previously observed short-haul Aer Lingus partner awards were primarily available in economy class. Travelers should not assume that every segment of a combined itinerary can be booked in business class.
🇩🇪 Condor (DE): Economy Awards to Frankfurt
Condor operates nonstop transatlantic flights through Frankfurt (FRA), including service from several major U.S. airports.
In the award searches reviewed for this guide, Condor results were concentrated in economy class. Business class award availability was not confirmed, so this section focuses on economy pricing.
Representative Nonstop Routes
| Route | Approx. Distance | Economy Starting Band |
|---|---|---|
| BOS–FRA | 3,659 miles | 27.5K |
| JFK–FRA | 3,846 miles | 27.5K |
| ANC–FRA | 4,662 miles | 27.5K |
| SEA–FRA | 5,094 miles | 35K |
| PDX–FRA | 5,212 miles | 35K |
| LAS–FRA | 5,569 miles | 35K |
| SFO–FRA | 5,685 miles | 35K |
| LAX–FRA | 5,792 miles | 35K |
These amounts are published distance-band starting rates rather than confirmed bookable prices.
For example, Anchorage–Frankfurt was observed at 50K in economy, despite its distance corresponding to a 27.5K starting band.
Condor is worth including when comparing economy awards to Germany, but travelers should not assume that the published minimum is available on every route.
🇮🇸 Icelandair (FI): Iceland Routes and Directional Pricing
Icelandair connects North America and Europe through Keflavík International Airport (KEF), near Reykjavík.
Its Saga Premium cabin is not equivalent to a conventional long-haul lie-flat business class product.
No confirmed bookable Icelandair Saga partner award was identified in the searches reviewed for this article, so the analysis focuses on economy class.
Representative U.S.–Iceland Nonstop Routes
| Route | Approx. Distance | Economy Starting Band |
|---|---|---|
| BOS–KEF | 2,410 miles | 22.5K |
| JFK–KEF | 2,600 miles | 22.5K |
| EWR–KEF | 2,600 miles | 22.5K |
| IAD–KEF | 2,790 miles | 22.5K |
| PIT–KEF | 2,800 miles | 22.5K |
| ORD–KEF | 2,950 miles | 22.5K |
| RDU–KEF | 3,030 miles | 22.5K |
| MCO–KEF | 3,560 miles | 27.5K |
| DEN–KEF | 3,570 miles | 27.5K |
| PDX–KEF | 3,720 miles | 27.5K |
The Same Route Can Price Differently by Direction
Observed economy award prices included:
| Route | Observed Award Price |
|---|---|
| JFK–KEF | 22.5K, 35K, 40K, 45K |
| KEF–PIT | 35K |
| KEF–DEN | 50K |
| KEF–PDX | 50K |
| KEF–MCO | 57.5K |
| AMS–KEF | 7.5K |
| KEF–AMS | 15K |
These results show why Icelandair awards should be evaluated using actual search prices rather than distance alone.
For Iceland trips, searching the outbound and return directions separately can reveal significant differences in the points required.
🛑 International Stopover Rules and Redemption Strategy
Atmos Rewards permits eligible international partner awards to include a stopover of up to 14 days on a one-way itinerary.
This creates opportunities to visit a partner airline’s European hub before continuing to another destination.
However, two separately available award segments do not necessarily form a valid single-ticket stopover itinerary.
| Partner Airline | Main Stopover Airport | Onward Network |
|---|---|---|
| British Airways | LHR | United Kingdom and Europe |
| Finnair | HEL | Northern Europe and other European cities |
| Iberia | MAD | Spain and Europe |
| Aer Lingus | DUB | European short-haul routes, primarily economy in observed results |
| Condor | FRA | Germany and selected European destinations |
| Icelandair | KEF | Iceland and European economy routes |
For example, a traveler considering a U.S.–HEL–Europe itinerary should confirm the complete award itinerary rather than relying only on the availability of each individual segment.
Adding another flight can also affect the total distance used for award pricing, potentially moving the itinerary into a higher distance band.
💳 Taxes, Partner Booking Fees, and the Summit Card
The true cost of a partner award includes both Atmos Points and any applicable cash charges.
Partner Award Booking Fee
Atmos Rewards generally charges a US$20 partner award booking fee per person, per one-way award.
Eligible holders of the Atmos Rewards Summit Visa Infinite can receive a waiver of this partner booking fee.
The waiver does not eliminate government taxes or carrier-imposed surcharges.
Compare Cash Charges Before Booking
British Airways is an important example of why cash charges matter.
Two flights with similar points prices may have dramatically different out-of-pocket costs.
Before redeeming, compare the total points required, taxes, carrier-imposed surcharges, and flight schedule.
🏁 Conclusion: Which Partner Airline Should You Search First?
| Travel Goal | Airlines to Prioritize |
|---|---|
| East Coast 45K business class distance band | AA, EI, IB, BA |
| Nonstop flights to Northern Europe | AY |
| London and the United Kingdom | BA, AA |
| Nonstop flights to Spain | IB, AA |
| Nonstop flights to Ireland | EI, AA |
| Economy flights to Frankfurt | DE |
| Iceland and economy connections | FI |
| Multi-city European itineraries | BA, AY, IB; evaluate EI, DE, and FI individually |
For business class awards, American Airlines, Finnair, Iberia, and Aer Lingus are useful starting points. British Airways deserves consideration for its extensive network, but its cash surcharges can substantially affect value.
For economy awards, Condor and Icelandair expand the available options, particularly for travel to Germany and Iceland.
The strength of Atmos Rewards is the ability to compare multiple airlines using one points currency. The best redemption is not necessarily the shortest route or lowest advertised mileage band. It is the itinerary that combines bookable award space, reasonable cash charges, and a suitable schedule.
